No. Nobody saw me. But I'm gonna be honest with you, I wouldn't have cared if it was in the middle of town.
He kept saying all this stupid garbage about- about you, and he doubled down and started picking and prodding for all these little buttons about my last marriage and about Charlie, and I decided I was done.
Charlotte's the one to give extra chances. She's a better person than me, that's for sure!
It seems like he was jealous you weren't paying attention to him. ( at least that's how it looked from the outside. Attacking his wife and family to annoy him, busting into their house because, god forbid, he missed a single meet up? ) Either that, or he's got a stick up his ass for some other reason. Either way.
I'll come to you. We can go get some of that sea cream or something and cool off. Or whatever you need to do.
Sea cream sounds good, actually. You know I'd always like to see you.
[Stick up the ass is more likely for that guy. If he was jealous and everything, why say all those really shitty things back there? He hadn't been wrong- Lucifer could admit he had abandoned the people of Hell for a long time in his own spiraling, and bungled bonding with his daughter for centuries- but someone who wanted to spend time with him wouldn't go for low blows like that.]
It was getting cool enough, and Night Sky had made a vow to, at some point, wear actual clothes for him, that she decided to toss on a little outfit to surprise him for this impromptu date. Maybe seeing her "dressed up" would cheer him up a little.
She still was not wearing shoes, though, when she met him on the cobbled streets of Grey Ward. Night Sky grabbed his hand as she sidled up next to him. "Hi, handsome."
"...Next week, I promise!" Her surprise was maintained with Lucifer's attention momentarily elsewhere: Two elven children and a young human were clamoring to bid their farewells, insisting he keep his promise before hurrying off.
He waved after them, but blinked his surprise and turned when his peripheral picked up another presence. Her hand was always so soft, so comforting and his fingers immediately laced. The smile broadened and warmed. "Hey, sight for sore eyes. Check you out~!"
"Do you like it?" She asked, swishing the fabric with a sway of her hips. You would have never guessed this man just admitted to murder with how cheerfully they were greeting one another. Not that it bothered Night Sky much. No. What bothered her about the whole thing was how Lucifer was pushed into such a situation to begin with by a guy who was, to be blunt, an asshole who wasn't worthy of the devil's precious time.
She leaned down to kiss his cheek, voice lowering, amusement in her tone. "What's happening 'next week'?"
"C'est magnifique! I love it! It's so flowy." Yup. Just did a murder. Funny what goofing off with a bunch of kids and then greeting your wife can do for the mood.
He ducked his head a bit and chuckled awkwardly. "Ah... the orphanage needed help with something, and the ankle-biters got so attached to me that I told the caretakers on duty that I was okay swinging by once a week to visit. They enjoyed my magic tricks and how I turned the book they'd been read a thousand times into something new!"
She looked back over her shoulder. The children and their caretaker had since headed back inside. Night Sky imagined him in front of a handful of children, arms flailing theatrically, his voice pitching high and low for every character he played, magic in the air for dramatic effects and costume changes.
"Can I come sometime?" She asked. "Maybe I can help โ and it'll be good practice, for when we have our own."
He'd be lying if he hadn't thought of that while interacting with them, even the too-cool-for-this Georgie, who wanted to be the most mature of them.
With a hand to the back of his neck, he did nothing to mask the way his color rose a little. He didn't want to grab the star gods and shake them at all. Don't be silly.
"Absolutely! They'll love you. They're all great; I'll tell you all about them on the way."
It was a shame they couldn't adopt them all and take them out on adventures once everything was settled in Caldera. Halsin would have been on board with that too, given he had done something similar back in Faerun. Alas. Maybe they could help find them homes โ and if not that, be sure they were entertained and properly cared for now that the whole business with Georgie's friend was done. Not that Night Sky knew much about that particular event yet.
She started to lead them toward the secondary shop that had opened thanks to the popularity of the original Sea Cream shop, keeping close to his side with their hands interlocked.
"I'm glad something good came out of all of this." She said after a moment. "You don't have to talk about it if it's going to upset you โ but if you need to vent about Alastor, I'm here."
Nothing to see here, just a fellow escorting the lady toward a little treat for the evening. He hadn't committed a crime at all...!
But Lucifer made a face and waved a hand dismissively. "Eh, what's there to say at this point? The guy decided to be an asshole again and tried to drag you, my ex-wife, a completely unrelated woman and those kids into his complete crash out. I've had enough."
Good thing Visitor's bodied vanished shortly after they died, huh?
She frowned. "Do you think he's going to be a problem when he gets back? I don'tโ" she tightened her grip on his hand. "I don't want him coming to the house again. Should we be worried?"
"If he knows what's good for him, he shouldn't. But I can inform Dazzle to be on higher vigilance in three days' time, should he for some reason lack sense and decide to try again."
He brought their linked hands to his lips. "...Worry not. Spare no further thought for him."
She couldn't help but think of how easily Alastor had made it into their home. Twice. She would have to tell the dogs to be on alert, just in case. And they'd definitely have to warn Halsin. It's not like he could do anything to any of them, but the fact that she had to even prepare for it sucked.
"Okay." She would try not to. Luckily, the little sea cream shop was coming up and wasn't nearly as packed as it had been when it first popped up. "So what's the plan for the rest of the day, then? Sea cream and then what? We could walk to the beach or something. Or we could just go home, if you prefer." They were out โ may as well see how far they could go with this distraction.
"...A walk on the beach would be fantastic, actually." He smiled up at her.
"The smell of a sea breeze to clear the mind... you always read about it in a story, but you experience it yourself once and it just clicks." Besides, he did not want this lovely ensemble of hers to go to waste. He always appreciated when she tried things like this, though he also always worried that she was... well...
Lucifer paused to bite his tongue a second. But then he pressed on. "I hope you're not pushing yourself out of a comfort zone to, ah... y'know. I know I wear too much most days..."
Her gaze softened. Always worrying about her and her comfort, sweet Lucifer. Even now, after that unfortunate ordeal he had to suffer through.
"It's getting cooler," she said, sweeping back the thin cardigan to show off the orange croptop and black shorts underneath that hugged tight to the tops of her thighs. "So I figured I'd cover up a little more so you won't have to hear me complain about being cold. Alsoโ" she leaned in to whisper. "I don't have anything on under these shorts." Which opened up a lot of fun possibilities if he thought about it.
She straightened up again. Smiled. "Anyway! What flavor do you want? My treat."
Sensible. It was getting colder, and he thought back to when they first met, and how she was all bundled up for herb-gathering in the dead of winter. But to open up the cardigan and get a load of how the top and shorts embraced her shape, hems giving freckled skin an enticing little squish that caused a slight trip in his focus.
The little secret had him audibly clear his throat and stand up straighter.
Were he a lesser man, he would have whimpered there. To his credit, he kept his wits about him.
"Right! Sea cream. The, ah... spicy one. I like the spicy-cool contrast. The Emberfruit Ripple wound up being my favorite." And that's why his mouth was watering.
"One Emberfruit Ripple and one Coral Bloom, then." She said cheerfully to the young man behind the counter who promptly went to work making their cones. Night Sky leaned into Lucifer's side while they waited, purposefully pressing her ample chest against his arm and resting her chin on his shoulder. "You seem warmer than usual, love."
He was looking forward to the treat. He definitely needed it after... after today.
Lucifer was still with the weight of another leaning against him. But he was given the privilege of such soft- nope. Nope, that's a very teeny-tiny whimper now. He'd run out of wits.
"Well, y'know, it's been a toasty day...! Definitely need this. Feelin'- feelin' hot..." He couldn't remember how long ago his tail had manifested, but it tapped a very steadying beat against his left boot. But he leaned his head to nuzzle her.
"Now who's the Devil here, darling...?" Quiet, playful, low.

[Lofty. Perky. Putting on a bit.]
...Just, ah... wanted to let you know that I lost my head a bit and kind of turned Alastor into a pincushion.

...did he deserve it? And did anyone see you?

She would have cared if he drew too much attention or scared the locals. But if no one saw it, then at least they wouldn't have to worry about that. )
He's been picking and prodding since the first time he showed up for breakfast uninvited, to be honest. I can't exactly blame you.
Where are you now?
no subject
I'm somewhere in Gray Ward. Finished up a quest and just went walking to cool off a little more. I should make tracks home.

I'll come to you. We can go get some of that sea cream or something and cool off. Or whatever you need to do.
