[ When she wakes up, she will find a moonstone ring nestled in a geode he had found out in his wanderings. He includes a bouquet of wildflowers wrapped in lace and silk ribbons to lay beside the present. ]
[He's going to be super embarrassed about this one later, but Loki just isn't aware Night Sky can't read. He wants to give her a gift, but so many of his talents are bound up in his magic, which hasn't returned to him yet. Remembering poetry, and elegantly rewriting and illustrating it on neat parchment, is the best that occurs to him.
So, from Night Sky's perspective, she gets an envelope containing a sheet of white paper with words all over it written in green ink. Maybe the signature will make some sense to her visually? If not, she'll have to go by the weird cracked-ice-and-juniper-berry scent that clings to the paper. That's Loki's smell.
The second sheet is thick parchment, with more words on it, and a few sketches of feathers.
In reality, he's sent her a few paragraphs of commentary about how the imagery of the natural world in this poem reminded him of her, and the idea of freedom from regret and despair.]
So. Yeah. Night Sky couldn't read. Had no idea what the parchment said but she did recognize the scent, and once she was fairly sure who she could match it with, she fired up her bird shaped communicator and called him.
"Hey. Thank you for the... uhm. Letter? Thing is, I can't read, so I have no idea what this says."
"I have something for you too, if you want to come back. Maybe you could read this to me? If not, I'll just ask one of my partners. Thank you, either way."
[At one of Night Sky's campsites is a little 'buddy' tucked inside the tent in the shape of a green-eyed, brown rubber duck with hand-painted ivy and small blooms painted over the body like an earthen scarf. It has a smell akin to an herbal tea and- one supposes if she wanted to try- it has a tea flavor as well. The small key is used to wind up the little friend, allowing it to swim for a while on its own.
The duck squeaks when squeezed, but sprays a little glamour of petals from the beak.
Included is a little wrapped parcel with three hand pies containing a spiced apple filling.]
This is for you. I wish you a happy Starlight Celebration, my dear Daeleth. My own Starlight. May it bring you joy, as you do every day of our lives together.
[Aymeric's gift is a bottle of high-quality mead, and a stained glass charm with a section of royal blue (him), purple (Joie), light green (Sky), and dark green (Halsin). He made the stained glass himself via Dryad powers. And for Night Sky specifically, a bag of her favourite cookies. Homemade, naturally.]
[The gift, of course, is also accompanied with kisses.]
Hello pretty lady. Don't feel you need to respond to me in any haste. I just wanted to thank you for following to help us. I thought your offer to beat the ass of anyone who tried to kill me was in jest, but I see you're fully capable.
[ After being told some upsetting news, Dorian frantically is reaching out to Night Sky. It might be frantic, not thinking clearly since Gadriel just said he killed her, but maybe a part of him just wanted to see if he was wrong. ]
If he were certain of getting a written or verbal response, Barcus would just use the birds, but he's not. Having gathered from reading comments on Gadriel's network post that something truly terrible has happened to Night Sky, he's half-panicked and doing his best to maintain for the sake of not making anything worse. If he tried to message her and got nothing, he knows himself well enough to be certain he'd just spiral.
At least if he comes to the treehouse in person and doesn't find her, he can look for her gem, and Halsin, and there are absolutely ways to bring people back from death here, aren't there?
He's out of breath when he arrives, and he doesn't have a damn thing with him, and he sort of just...stands near the door for a few moments, panting and trying to work up the courage to look for her in earnest.
Night Sky would have answered if she saw who it was. She was mostly just lying in bed, tucked under the covers and either sleeping (snuggled up with Connor, Halsin, or both and her dogs), or just staring up at the ceiling wondering what the fuck she was supposed to do now.
She had managed to pull herself up to get something to eat, Bear Heart on her heels. The dog stopped at the front door, sniffed the air, and then barked excitedly, running in circles in front of it.
"Someone there, boy?" She asked, drawing herself closer and opening the door just enough to peer out.
I have learned of what happened to you. I am so sorry for what you have been through, my love, and that I could not do anything to assist you. Pray forgive my shameful absence from your side when you needed help the most.
You have gone into the woods with Halsin, right? Take all the time you need. I shall await your return, but know that my heart is with you wheresoever you may go. I love you, Starlight.
Hello? This is Night Sky, correct? I certainly hope so anyways. This is Percival Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski De Rolo III and I am delivering a bit of news as a request- but Barcus is doing well and he wanted to let you know not to fret about him.
It took some conversation and some gentle coaxing to get Bel to let him go walking alone after all that's happened. While Barcus hates to feel like a burden and is used to complete independence, it sort of feels good to have someone that determined to watch out for him. In the end, though, just letting the drow know he's going to visit Night Sky was enough reassurance. Nothing is likely to happen to him on the way through the woods to the treehouse.
He arrives with a basket full of mushrooms, some gathered from the woods, most collected from his own windowboxes, and there's some sort of bundle of fabric tucked under his arm. He looks much the same as he ever has, though. Weird to have popped into the afterlife for a few hours only to come back without a scar, or a memory.
He looks around for her in the yard first, calling her name, before making his way up to the door, bracing for a possible collision with one dog or another. "Night Sky? Are you in, dear? It's Barcus."
Daytime hours were meant for sleeping — at least that's what Night Sky usually did if not otherwise occupied. Barcus would stroll by the beginnings of a garden out in the yard as Lucifer's first attempt, and find no one else seemingly around at the moment.
There was a delay before the door opened and a groggy Night Sky answered. Her dogs were likely out on a walk with Connor, Halsin, or both. And who knew where Lucifer had wandered off to. She worried for him after he had died, but he was a grown ass man who, hopefully, knew well enough by now not to run himself ragged for no good reason. She wasn't going to babysit him... that much.
"Barcus?" She yawned. "Hi. Haven't seen you for a minute."
[Lulu's post on the network is the most alarming thing Barcus has heard since he came here, and that includes the battle he died in. And maybe it shouldn't be his first thought, but the terror that Night Sky might have been in the middle of that, whatever the hells it was, is.]
Where are you?? Night Sky?
The network--just, just tell me what you're doing and I'll come help, whatever it is.
Edited (just added a link for posterity) 2025-07-20 23:46 (UTC)
There was so much to see in this world beyond the circus and, now that he had his powers back, he was better at making time to see them all. He'd missed being able to fly.
The strange tree store was one he hadn't paid much mind to: "Garden of Earthly Delights". Hmmm...that might have some interesting wares.
Though as he hovered around the store, he was growing more and more confused. Why were so many things eggplant-shaped? Why are there balls on straps? And those outfits...humans were supposed to be sensitive to cold. It seemed like anyone wearing them would be freezing.
You know who else was probably cold? The barely dressed dryad at the counter. Night Sky had watched Caine enter, elbows propped on the front counter, chin in her palms, curious and intrigued by the suited man with teeth for a head. When he wandered close enough, she hopped up onto the counter, legs crossed.
[Alastor had thought long and hard how to approach this. How to send it was the easy choice: the birds were far too impersonal for something like this. It had to be handwritten. No, the tough part was trying to come up with how to arrange this without making it seem like he was angling for leverage, to force her to listen to what he had to say.]
[After the twin disasters at the "mingle", Alastor had given up fighting. So instead, he decided to just give her all the power in this situation. It wouldn't be different than usual.]
[A simple envelope would be found slipped under her door, a simple "Miss Night Sky" written in scripted red ink on the front. Inside would be this letter.]
Dear Miss Night Sky,
If it pleases you, I would appreciate a few moments of your time at a time and place of your choosing. I myself will be unaccompanied but please be aware that you are under no obligation to do the same.
Sincerely yours, Alastor

[This is one of two boxes left on Night Sky's doorstep, the other being labeled for Lulu.]
Happy Hearth's Warming Eve and a merry Season of Light, Night Sky!
Yours, Cadence
[Inside Night Sky's box is a smoky quartz crystal about the size of a paperweight shaped like a Pegasus mare with bat wings, fangs, and tufts on its ears. It looks lovely on its own but the tilt of its head suggests that it's part of a two-piece set with the bat pony nuzzling something.]
After the solstice, a gift arrives at the Treehouse with a tag on it addressed to Night Sky--not just in letters but also with a little drawing of a dark blue sky with a moon and some stars sketched into it. If she can read anything at all, Barcus assumes it's her name, but in case she can't, she gets some gnomish artwork.
Within the gift basket is an assortment of candied almonds. Lulu will probably have to read the attached note to her. It says: These are not from the floor but you can put them there if they taste better to you that way.
There is also a pendant which must have been made by the gnome himself, an orchid carved of pink and gold tourmaline. The shape isn't quite as yonic as her birthday cake, but it is an orchid and inherently somewhat suggestive. There's a little golden bell attached to the spot where the anther would be in a real flower, and another note Lulu or Halsin will have to read to her. It says: Ring for good luck.
There are also several pages of what appear to be blueprints for some kind of moderately large sex machine akin to a Sybian. Good luck reading the measurements and specs, they're in gnomish, but the shape of the device is probably easy for her to interpret. The plans are also labeled: Will happily produce these for the shop if you wish, or for personal use. Love, Barcus
