Hey, Sky.

[Good morning, Night Sky. Hope you didn't want to sleep in.]

I remember you mentioned owning a shop. You hiring?
earthborn: (it worked for washburn)

No. I've never done retail. But... I figure, if I'm going to stop trying to kill my brain cells and actually live, I could start by finding something to do with myself.

[Alas, you have on your hands someone who, when they're not spiraling, cheerfully gets up at five in the morning for a miles-long run. Give in to despair!]

And aside from Finnick, you're the only one I know who runs a business. I like Finnick, he's a great guy, but uh... I think he might want some privacy, now and then. [He's an in-demand person, but he just got engaged and— it felt prudent to give them space.]

And it sounded like maybe you could use the help. No pressure, though. I can figure it out, if you'd rather take a pass on me.
earthborn: (now is the time to fight)

Really? [She laughs] Well, I can do stoic.

I might've mentioned I don't exactly have the background knowledge of what you're selling here. [Is it too early in the morning for innuendo? Eh, fuck it.] Maybe you could help educate me, when you're free. Just— out of professionalism, of course.
earthborn: (batton your hatches)

I told you; I don't like to do things halfway.

[Shepard's grinning, can't you hear it in her voice. Gotcha on that one, didn't she?]

So, if I'm hired, that makes you the boss, right? Your call— I'm putting myself under your command here, Night Sky.
earthborn: (subdue the enemy without fighting)

Maybe I just want to see what all the fuss is about. But I thought you might be... And I'm not entirely kidding about the educational aspect.

Sure. [a beat] Where is it?

Sure, take your time. Hows' he doing, by the way? Seems like the people here can bring you back from just about anything, but it sounded like he got a pretty good ass-kicking.

[He had kinda let himself in for it, too, but that didn't mean Shepard wasn't pulling for the guy. There was justice and then there was justice.]

Grey Ward, giant tree. Got it.
earthborn: (those times have passed away)

Kish is... Kish is a kid. Well, she's an adult by any rational standard, but the eagerness with which she meets her work puts Shepard in mind of a fresh recruit, somebody just out of basic and eager to kick some ass, take some names, and— Jenkins. That was who she reminded Shepard of. Richard Jenkins, if the good Corporal had helped run a sex shop, that is.

Probably this could be considered a step down in the world, from soldier to celebrity cagefighter to x-rated retail... but it was still technically a hell of a step up from the gutter, so. She'll choose gratitude, even when by the time Night Sky shows up, Kish is already halfway through the store with no signs of slowing her enthusiastic monologue.

"Hey, are you sure you actually need another employee around here? Kish is uh... She really seems to know her stuff."

It's enough to make a girl feel a bit superfluous.
earthborn: (he tried to kill me and failed)

"It's uh... It's a lot," Shepard admits, in a rueful tone. And it is; the selection is obviously varied, the stock sufficient to meet demand, and the demand— well, the only other person in the shop is certainly trying not to make eye contact, but that he's here at all at eight in the morning bespeaks the market.

Even if she is giving as much of this stuff away as she had once implied, it doesn't seem like Night Sky is about to run out of paying customers.

"But it's also a lot better than what I've been doing so far. Thanks. What about you, you excited to take responsibility for some random human who doesn't know what hell she's doing?"
